Injury Prevention Model at Physical Therapy Conferences

Encouraged by the positive outcomes of DayBreak’s injury prevention training program at the Hong Fook ADHC/CBAS centers in Oakland, DayBreak’s  model was presented at the California PT Association conference in 2014 and at the American PT Association national conference in February 2015. The model represents a partnership between DayBreak and Kaiser Permanente’s Neuro-PT residency program. The PT residents,Michael Castillo and Kathleen Parafinczuk,  along with DayBreak’s PT contractor, provided training sessions to center staff and family  caregivers, teaching body mechanics and demonstrating evidence-based fall prevention exercises to benefit center participants. They also provided one-on-one consultations for staff and a professional development training for PT’s and OT’s in the Daybreak network, translating recent research into practical strategies for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease and dementia.
